Objective Depression and poor functional status (FS) frequently co-occur. Though both predict adverse surgical outcomes, research examining preoperative functional performance (FP; self-reported) and functional capacity (FC; performance-based) measures in depressed cancer patients is lacking.
This paper looked at the potential psychological benefits of a prehabilitation program on colon cancer patients receiving surgery. Pooling the results of three previous randomized studies on these patients, their levels of depression and how this may have affected their outcome was focused upon.
