Dr. Patricia Kongshavn
McGill immunologist and essential collaborator in the early research on dietary proteins, immune response and the whey protein concentrate that became part of Immunocal’s scientific history.
Read expanded historyImmunocal did not begin as a trendy supplement slogan. Its story is tied to decades of research on undenatured whey protein, cysteine/cystine, glutathione, immune response and redox physiology.
The scientific story of Immunocal is easier to understand as a chain: research on dietary proteins, immune response, cysteine/cystine availability, internal glutathione synthesis and the development of an undenatured whey protein designed to preserve biological activity.
That chain includes names such as Gustavo Bounous, Patricia Kongshavn, Wulf Dröge, Jimmy Gutman, Larry Lands and the authors of the technical chapter included in the work edited by Luc Montagnier, René Olivier and Catherine Pasquier.

Medical educator who helped bring the glutathione concept closer to the general public. His IDEA framework summarizes four functions associated with glutathione: immune regulation, detoxification, energy and antioxidation.

Patricia Kongshavn earned honours in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge and completed her doctorate in Immunology at McGill University. She later joined McGill’s Faculty of Medicine, working in Physiology and Medicine and becoming a full professor.
Her research focused on the immune system, cellular immunology, host-parasite interactions and the genetics of natural resistance. Her work was funded by institutions such as the Medical Research Council of Canada, the National Cancer Institute of Canada and the United States National Institutes of Health.
In the mid-1970s she began, with Dr. Gustavo Bounous, a research line on how different dietary proteins influenced immune responsiveness. That collaboration produced publications from 1978 onward and became part of Immunocal’s scientific origin.

Gustavo Bounous was a central figure in the development of the undenatured whey protein approach later associated with Immunocal. Trained in Italy, he developed an academic and research career in surgery in the United States and Canada, including work in Sherbrooke and McGill.
His earlier work included clinical nutrition and elemental diets in hospital contexts. In 1978 he began a research program with colleagues from McGill’s Faculty of Medicine to study dietary protein sources capable of influencing immune response.
The work of Bounous and Kongshavn led to the isolation and preparation of an undenatured whey protein concentrate. The important point is not generic “whey”, but preserving sensitive fractions and providing precursors linked to internal glutathione synthesis.

Wulf Dröge is a reference in redox physiology, cysteine, glutathione and aging. Earlier +Glutation documentation presented him as one of the researchers who helped place the relationship between glutathione, immune response and oxidative stress in a wider scientific conversation.
His career includes basic and clinical research, work in institutions such as Max Planck, Harvard, the Basel Institute for Immunology and the University of Heidelberg, and numerous publications in international scientific journals.
On this website, his role is not used as a medical promise. It is context: if Immunocal speaks about glutathione, cysteine/cystine and redox balance, Dröge helps explain why those concepts matter scientifically.

Jimmy Gutman plays a different role: he is not the origin of Immunocal’s development, but a medical education figure around glutathione. His contribution on this website belongs to the educational route and introductory materials.
The IDEA Ebook presents glutathione through four easy-to-remember ideas: immune regulation, detoxification, energy and antioxidation. That structure helps explain why glutathione appears in many cellular systems without presenting it as a universal solution.
His page organizes that search into a documentary route: book, IDEA Ebook, studies, Bound Cysteine, Immunocal and official catalogue.
View the IDEA EbookLarry Lands appears in the historical documentation as a researcher at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and as an author linked to studies on Immunocal, glutathione and muscular performance in young people. His presence matters because he connects Immunocal with clinical research and interest in sport, muscle and recovery.
He is presented as a complementary scientific reference, not as a standalone claim. His context fits best inside the studies and sport routes, especially alongside Immunocal Sport and athlete pages.
View sport contextSylvain Baruchel, Ginetta Viau, René Olivier, Gustavo Bounous and Mark A. Wainberg appear as authors of the technical chapter on nutraceutical modulation of glutathione with Immunocal™ included in Oxidative Stress in Cancer, AIDS, and Neurodegenerative Diseases.
Precision matters here: Luc Montagnier appears as an editor of the book with René Olivier and Catherine Pasquier, but the chapter on Immunocal™ has its own authors. This distinction allows authority to be used without exaggeration.

This reference helps place Immunocal within a scientific conversation about glutathione, oxidative stress and biomedical research. The practical decision still depends on the exact product, country, price, precautions and official Immunotec purchase route.
It organizes scientific references, documentation, studies, patents and nutritional development related to Immunocal.
