Abstract focus
Oxidant/antioxidant imbalance can occur in obstructive airways disease, as a result of ongoing inflammation. Glutathione plays a major role in pulmonary antioxidant protection.
Context from Dr. Gutman’s comments
This case study was of particular interest to me because the subject of the study was one of my own patients—a single mother who practiced law. Following radiation exposure for treatment of Hodgkin’s lymphoma when she was younger, she developed “Pulmonary Fibrosis,” which scarred the lung so much that she became housebound and dependent on an oxygen mask.
